[Here's a young lady sitting on a bench next to the door to the Ancient Egypt world. She's got a little cloth sack she keeps pulling treats out of and swallowing whole, while swinging her legs childishly back and forth.

Except her treats, uh.

Are fuzzy. And have tails.

She seems to be enjoying herself. Mice from pet stores just aren't the same.]

*In the GX-era Domino harbor, there is a short lady who may or may not look familiar perched on a ledge. Feel free to approach. Or, if you just happen to be passing by, you may hear a deadpan voice calling after you:*

You asked for it, you got it: it's the Kinky Beam Event!

Floating high above the sky in each of these worlds - so far out you can't see it, save perhaps for a twinkle in the sky - there is a beam weapon of terrible power. And it's firing at random.

If struck by this fearsome device, you suddenly find yourself...changing. Is it your preferences that change? Your body? Your attitude? All that's decided randomly!

And there's a fairly good chance you'll end up, heh. Attracted to the next person you see.

To determine the "kink" your character's hit with, use one of these two generators (though I think they're pulling from the same list). Platonic versions of the kinks are A-OK for kidlets, too! Sometimes catgirls just want to scratch up all the furniture, after all.

The beams will be firing for a week, though there's no rule against one character being hit multiple times during that week. ~_^ So if you feel like changing preferences in the middle of a thread, hey! Chaos is what we're aiming for here.

Despite the fact all the worlds have their own separate logic, their own time and people, and their own rules, they do share three things.

Doors leading to one another.
References to the game Duel Monsters.
And competition.

And since the doors and Duel Monsters are obvious, clearly we need a regular reminder of the third in each world! So, I bring you a monthly issue of Worlds Gaming Tournaments! (Only $199.95 a year!)

Each world will have its own competition once per month, hosted by a fitting host. The number of applicants will vary by game, but most compete with an eight-person tier, after preliminaries eliminate any extras. The last standing will be named winner, recognized as respected champion by the npcs for the month, and gifted with a special ring, which to them is just an accessorizing trophy. In truth though, it has special effects on whomever puts it on, winner of the ring or not. (They also won't know what effect they might get. All the color hints is the theme! The exact nature is up to the player.)

All the other details? Flexible. Not only do the worlds host differing games, in different areas, with different competitors and prizes involved, but the givens are dangerously easy to abuse. If someone interfered with the tournament, or a particular player, the npcs might try to stop them. But most are just normal people, and no matter what the host will hold the games until the end, a winner will be named and respected, and the prize will be given.

Best hope you're not playing in a game where someone's willing to fight dirty!

[Like any good metropolitan area, GX!Domino has a vibrant shopping district. Luna has taken to this particular area with aplomb - after the confirmation that the Underground does, indeed, seem active here (though that's going to take a bit more digging), she needs to properly prepare.

Apparently this means restocking on a wardrobe. What kind of impression would she make if her clothes repeated too often, really.

She passes a few outfits - not all of which look like they might fit; she's shopping for two - back behind herself, expecting a certain someone to be there. It's her job and her duty, after all.]

[A young man of considerable stature has washed up on the Domino City shoreline.

He is covered in salt and sand, and a few pieces of seaweed have draped themselves casually around his limbs and wormed their way into the tears in his clothing. He's clutching a sealed briefcase as if his life depends on it, even in unconsciousness.

There's a waterlogged nametag pinned to his soaked leather coat that reads "Hello: My Name Is Phoneutria."

What a suspicious character. Perhaps you should investigate.]

Making this quick because I have ~~twenty extant tags~~ job apps to proofread, but it's indeed Wednesday, the day on which we summarize and assess all of the lovely roleplaying that's been going on all up in here! So post a comment with what you've been up to and brainstorm away! This is, as the subject line says, a great "checkpoint" chance to start future planning as well. :3

The event for this week is not a surprise - Pheebs wrote up this meme but life was a thing that happened so nothing's been done with it. OUR MISSION, should we choose to accept it, is therefore to use those guidelines to get new and interesting CR in the coming two weeks!

For it's hit me there's a want for "what have you never gotten to do before" floating around, combined with an uncertainty to overloading, detailed plotting. Fear not, for below you'll find a list of challenges, meant purely to make you try something new.

Finally, he slips away from prying urban eyes to let Diabound out....

and nothing happens.

His breath sticks in his chest and he pounds the wall. He tries again. Why?

[Cassandra woke up in BC-era Domino, got herself horribly lost, and finally made it back to GX-era Domino, where she's now sitting outside a sweets parlor with a piece of cake. This still isn't Earth proper, as nothing's cost any money, but she can't find Sayyid no matter how hard she looks, and she doesn't want to think of him out there on his own....

Besides, it's her birthday. She's celebrating being sixteen with no idea where she is, no roof over her head, and no family. And there's a lost little boy out there somewhere - be it here or back in that hotel - without guidance.

Just when she thought they'd begun to accept each other.

Cassandra tries to take a bite of cake, but it sticks in her throat. She sits up straighter and lectures herself: this too will pass. She'll weather it, and find Sayyid.

She doesn't want to cry.]

Feels a little weird having one of these when we've been open for what, less than a week, but here you go: it's time for How's My Driving! Post with what your characters have been up to and leave feedback for others.

This is also a good place to do event planning! Or rather, to hash it out. Do we want a single post where we comment with event ideas, or should event ideas be proposed in individual OOC posts as we think of them/by approaching me OOCly/by commenting to these HMDs? Do we want the event list to be public, as opposed to YGODressing where I have a little secret .rtf file? I'm good with any system. (We also have to start filling said list or else you'll both be subjected to whatever the hell I feel like making the event - see below for an example). Please chime in both with your opinions about how events should be handled AND with ideas for said events!

I'd also like to propose permanent wildcards: events that will always happen tied to certain things about the setting. Examples: if you go swimming in the high school pool you will always turn into a Pokémon. If you eat a "deluxe special" café creampuff you will always end up mildly lust evented. If you go over your time at the Domino karaoke parlor you will always lose your voice for a day. That kind of stuff. Should we make a list of places where these things happen? I could go on, but I also take suggestions! :D

In either case, this week's event for the affected is Canon Powers Swap! Can you do something special? Use an Item no one else can? For a week, you've got someone else's powers - but do they have yours, or does a third party....? (Extra nurses will be on staff at the hospital, particularly for Item burn wounds. An exception to canon will be made for people wearing Items that suddenly reject them - it'd kind of be a downer if you couldn't enjoy your new powers because you started vomiting flames. The Item will just hurt to touch, and not respond to you.)

Lastly, a mod announcement: I'll be adding a "respawn point" to the Settings page after posting this. Those with the misfortune of meeting an untimely end while in any world covered by this musebox will find themselves awakening on a corner bench in the Domino High girls' locker room, a Band-Aid of mun's choice in color and design over any mortal wounds they may have received. (Those dead of more insidious causes may also have Band-Aids, if it is so wished.) Pray you don't run into NPC Anzu on your way out. She has this thing for hitting trespassers with globes.

[This is a modern Japanese city near the ocean, with no known beaches about. So, it's curious the tiny Alarm is rushing down the road, sporting piles of metal and beaded jewelry that look right out of a tomb display, sand rubbed all over his front. Best of all, his rod is in his hand, blade out and bloody.

And he's running with his face frozen in fear. Right for the apartment building.

-but, should you not be run over by the little Egyptian, someone's walking slowly in his shadow, coming into the lobby without a hair out of place. Save for looking for, someone, in the space, there's no sign of connection between these entrances.

[So just in case you thought you'd gone home, here's something that'll dispel that assumption right off the bat.

A shadow has just flitted across the buildings of Domino City. A shadow vaguely human in shape, tapering off to a snake's body. And it's got wings.

If you look up, the creature that cast that shadow is riding the city thermals as high as it can. And there's a woman holding onto its shoulder, mouth stretched in what looks like a triumphant shout, though the wind has carried it away.

They've found each other again. And there's finally room to fly.]

[You've woken up somewhere unexpected.

Maybe you don't realize it until you've looked out your window, since your apartment's the same, or poked your head out into the hallway. Maybe you've found yourself in a world you've never seen before - or else, one that looks just like home. But whatever the circumstances, it can't be denied: once again, someone's having a good laugh at your expense.

Should you venture into the lobby of a certain apartment complex, however, you'll find a banquet of breakfast treats laid out by unseen caterers. There's meats, eggs, pastries, rice, more pastries, yogurt, various juices, mimosas for those of age, still more pastries...

What can I say? Lots of you are Bakurae.

Enjoy the spread! But be careful. Four kinds of food spark a day-long event in your head.

Turkey sausage: Can't talk turkey! You're incapable of lying.
Cherry danish: Couldn't be sweeter! You'll crush on the first person you see after eating it.
Hot chocolate: Take it easy! You'll find yourself relaxing, taking life in stride.
Tabasco sauce: Fired up! You're full of energy and ready to explore.

All kinds of posts are welcome on this community - primarily IC, of course, but also RP memes and related OOC discussions. As long as it's relevant to this specific game and these characters, it belongs on

ghoulsunderground.

For organization's sake, however, please label any non-IC posts as such in the subject line. An example of this system is shown above - this is a mod post, so the word [MOD] appears. OOC comments would have [OOC] starting the subject line, meme posts would have [MEME], and so forth. (IC postings are the default, so title those subjects any way you like.)

Please also tag your non-IC posts with the corresponding tags. "*ooc", "*modpost", & "*meme" are the three I've currently created, but if we get ~~dorky~~ engrossed enough that this few people can generate an IC secrets post or something I'll add tags accordingly.

Character tags are also going to work as they did in the DR ("series name: character") since that's what we're used to. This game doesn't differentiate between sub and dub versions of characters, however, so mind that we only ever have one general "malik" tag in use, one general "yuugi" tag, etc.

Everyone with posting access to the community has the ability to create tags. To get things started, however, I'll do my best to have tags prepared for every account subscribed to this musebox when it opens. :3

As mentioned in the general setting writeup, character housing defaults to an apartment complex not unlike the DR on a smaller scale. Their rooms remain intact, save for any physically impossible/improbable modifications - Brunch will wake up to discover his motorcycle and scooter have moved to a reserved spot in the apartment's parking garage, for example.

Though rooms still respond to their owner's desires, the default layouts for new/unmodified rooms are as follows, courtesy of Pheebs:
Studio // 1 bedroom // 2 bedroom // 3 bedroom

This apartment building has 9 floors, with an unknown number of rooms per floor; it's not totally "normal", after all. Pets are allowed by this building. Also, the elevator is incredibly slow....

For reference's sake, a list of the people living in the apartment building (and any roommates) follows. (With special thanks again to Pheebs for reorganizing! <3 <3)

Please comment to this list with your characters and where they live - a specific floor or room number isn't necessary, but it'd be good to get a notion of where everyone lives in relation to each other. Try to comment if things change, too, but I'll try to catch stuff like that myself. ^_^
